History
Founded by the editor/publisher and field reviewer for the US Center for Substance Abuse Treatment, Jay Renaud, Guidepoints was first published in 1993 as Guidepoints: Acupuncture in Recovery carrying the subtitle, "The Professional's Newsletter on Innovative Treatment of Addictive and Mental Disorders." In 2004, Guidepoints became the official member newsletter of the National Acupuncture Detoxification Association (NADA), currently published as Guidepeoints: News from NADA. In 2010, Renaud retired as editor of Guidepoints. The current editor is NADA office manager, Sara Bursac.
Subject matter
Guidepoints is the only healthcare publication exclusively dedicated to the use of acupuncture for addictions and psychiatric/behavioral health treatment. Subject matters includes news, funding, public policy, science, research, and clinical practice in the field of behavioral health. Guidepoints features program profiles of innovative addictions behavioral health, disaster relief, community development programs utilizing acupuncture protocols around the world, in particular the five point protocol of the National Acupuncture Detoxification Association (NADA).
Availability
Guidepoints is available in academic libraries, by subscription, as well as through the EBSCO academic journal database, Alt HealthWatch. Publication contents may be reproduced without permission (please give credit). Members of the National Acupuncture Detoxification Association receive Guidepoints on a bi-monthly basis and have access to online archives. Today, NADA has over 1700 members. ISSN-1070-8200.
