She worked in field of maternal/child health both in hospital as obstetrics nurse and in public health as visiting nurse and later as program manager in Maternal Child Health. Many of her clients were affected by living with others or themselves having addictions or mental disorders. She trained as ADS under Michael Smith in 2000 in New Delhi, India, along with a cohort of addiction treatment professionals in a Twelve Step Treatment program there. As a public health nurse, she introduced the NADA protocol into Maternal Child Health program. In 2003 their “Acupuncture Initiative to Improve Retention in a Parenting Class” was recognized by Federal Health and Human Service, Office on Child Abuse and Neglect as “substantial and convincing” and was accepted in the category of Innovative Programs. http://www.childwelfare.gov/preventing/programs/whatworks/report/emergingb.cfm Also in 2003, Mary became a Registered Trainer under Laura Cooley.
